Moved OUT!
Thursday, April 3rd, 2008Hello! I’ve moved in into a new place! www.3vesanctuary.blogspot.com Hehehe…my new sanctuary. Once again, thank you to those who have been faithfully waiting for my update in my blogs. Sori to keep u all waiting so long…I understand…it’s kinda like me waiting for my favourite author to come out with her new book. Hahaha!! (cheh cheh! Author konon!) Actually I wanted to write something nicer, something ‘kinder’ U know…kinda like a good last impression here b4 i move out, But some things have occurred these days and I feel strongly bout this issue…
Ok, so wat is the important thing tat I cant wait to tell u guys? Erm…this might not be a ‘funny’ passage becoz it is something deep in my heart tat I wanna tell my frens out there…especially those who hav seen “Pooka”. Now u get a bit of wat I mean?
This blog is dedicated to ppl especially my frens who hav thought of or deciding to buy a sugar glider as a pet.Sugar Glider trade has been increasing and it’s becoming a trend…(Maybe becoz this is the year of the Rat??! But..gliders are not rodents! Hahaha) Anyways, I have been receiving phone calls of ppl asking me where to find breeder becoz they wanna buy a sugar glider. And It is not 1 or 2 but MANY has called me. I dun mind u guys calling me and asking me about tat…I welcome the calls. But my concern increased as I noticed that a lot of ppl do not have the slightest idea of wat they are buying. I’m truly worried about this. Those who had called me shud know…my advice is always “THINK CAREFULLY and CHECK OUT WAT IT IS FIRST”. Ok…I’m not saying u cant have one…of course u can! And I hope u can have the joy of owning a pet like I do.
But…PLS PLS PLS…u guys hav to think further and ask urself, why do i wan a pet and most importantly, Am I able to tale care of it? A Sugar Glider is NOT like keeping a hamster. It’s much much more difficult. (Believe me, I had 5 hamsters b4 and a sugar glider.) Though they look alike in many many ways.

The above table might provide some of the differences between a sugar glider and a hamster. Well, I myself, though I have experienced working with sugar gliders in the zoo, I also think twice b4 buying ‘Pooka’ becoz I was scared I cant keep her in good condition. U see, sugar gliders have very strict nutrition needs. Some things they cant eat….or can eat, but not more/less. Though special Glider Mix can be found in some pet stores (I heard rumors that some gliders die after eating the retail one…though not sure how true it is) and I know someone who does it for sale (this source I trust). Too many stories I heard about their gliders die becoz of malnutrition. And they cant be left alone….either u buy two or u bring it along wherever u go. Like me. And most importantly, u are to expect scratches and bites…not very nasty ones…but like the ones I hav sometimes on my hands. If they are not handled or tame earlier in their stages of life, it’s likely very difficult to handle them later. I deal with wild gliders b4 (they are born in captive, but jus not handled regularly), and they can bite through leather gloves we use to handle animals. They also make noises…especially during the nite (Nocturnal) so…expect jumping here and there in the middle of the nite. (I’m used to it…hahaha! Pooka sometimes bark in the middle of the nite….ish ish!) And did I mention u either hav to file or cut their nails? If NOT!!! Come and see my hands sometimes and u know why u must cut!!! Hahahaa….i cut pooka’s nails bout once a week.
Wow…seems like I’m trying to keep uguys away from having a glider rite? Sori…but this is my concern becoz I hav ppl claiming to buy but didn’t even know tat gliders are highly sociable….so sad! And I do not want these gliders to innocently suffer plus u to feel bad and sad when things doesn’t work out. But there is a bright side to it, when bonded to u, gliders make great companion and they stick to u. Hehehe…And they last very long….(long enuf) to be a long term pet….em, if I were to compare, I will compare a glider to a dog instead of a hamster. Only with not so big POO and WEE ahahhahaha! Great huh? Anyways, my intentions are not to discourage u…but at least jus think bout it and find out more in the internet or whatever references! Hehehe….this is to ensure that u will have a GOOD time and enjoy ur glider. : ) Do not hesitate to call me, email me or post a comment about this issue. I will be more than willing to help.
I hope no one is offended from reading this! I come from good intentions ya!! : )
P.S. My info is not complete….thus different ppl will give diff opinions on this. So I’m jus speaking from wat I experienced. I’m learning along the way too..and Pooka is still alive and well so far! Hahaha! Ya, if anyone know how can I make my glider smell better, can post a comment to me ya!! (Gliders cant be bath I know….any ideas?)
